Life stories

Keep grandma and grandpa’s stories, spoken and written, before they are gone.

A guided interview for every person in the tree: questions that bring memories back, answers in writing, in photos or in a voice recording, and a book you can print.

The questions

43 starter questions by category: childhood, parents and family, youth and school, love and wedding, work and career, life and adventures, values and advice
Add your own questions, for one person or "ask everyone"
Questions you add belong only to your family

Interview mode

Full screen with one question at a time, a progress bar and "answered X of Y"
Automatic saving after you stop typing
Next, back and skip, and the interview continues from the first unanswered question
A "+ my own question" button in the middle of the interview

How to answer

Text, a photo and a voice recording, and in one question you can use both
Recording in the browser, and a new recording replaces the previous one
Dictation by voice on devices and browsers that support it
Photos are shrunk automatically, and files are kept in your family’s private storage
A recording alone also counts as an answer

The book

Answers are shown by category, and in view mode you can play the recordings
A personal book for each person and a book for the whole family, oldest to newest, with the photos
Print or save as PDF through the print window (recordings do not go onto the page, which notes that a recording exists)
The number of stories appears in the timeline and the insights, and you can see how much of the tree is still missing

On the birthday and the memorial

The notification of a birthday or a memorial day mentions how many stories were saved about that person
Tapping the notification opens the person’s card straight on the stories tab
On the dates page a link to that person’s stories appears next to the date

Who can do what: The family admin decides for each member whether they can view or edit Life stories, or have no access to it. The feature can also be switched off for the whole family.
